Designing in Playbook Studio

Working with phases

Add, rename, reorder, insert, and delete phases — the coloured frames that group your sessions into stages.

Phases help organise a playbook into clear stages.

Examples might include Discovery, Planning, Delivery, or Launch. Each phase groups related sessions together and defines where they sit in the overall flow of the playbook.

This guide covers the phase-level actions available in Playbook Studio: adding, inserting, renaming, reordering, and deleting phases.

What is a phase?

A visual grouping

A coloured frame containing one or more sessions.

An ordered stage

Phases appear from left to right in the order participants will experience them.

Automatic colouring

Colours are assigned automatically to keep the canvas consistent and easy to read.

A session container

A phase can contain one or many sessions.

  3. 3

Important behaviour

Moving sessions between phases is not currently supported. Sessions can be reordered within a phase, but cannot be moved directly from one phase to another through the interface.

Tips

Name phases around outcomes. Labels such as Discovery, Design, Decide, or Launch are usually more meaningful than Week 1, Week 2, or Week 3.

It's fine to create phases before filling them. Many teams sketch the overall structure first and add sessions later.

Phase colours are automatic. Colours are generated by the system and cannot be customised.
