Running Active Playbooks

The Home dashboard

Your workspace-wide home — a daily-driver dashboard rolling up sessions, tasks, playbooks, and recent artefacts across everything you've got running.

The Home dashboard is the page you'll land on most often — your workspace-wide rollup of what's coming up, what needs doing, and what's been produced recently across every playbook you have access to. Built right, it's the only page you need to open in the morning to know what your day looks like.

This page covers what each section shows, where its data comes from, and when to drill down to the underlying surface for more detail.

What's on the dashboard

Six sections, in this order on the page:

Upcoming sessions

Up to 6 sessions scheduled across all your active playbooks. Click any session card to jump into its planner.

Tasks by due date

A merged top-10 task list rolled up across your top 5 active playbooks. Sorted by due date — the things you need to do soonest, first.

Draft sessions

Optional. Sessions you've started but not yet published. Surfaces here so they don't get forgotten.

Active playbooks

A grid of every playbook you have running, with thumbnails and quick stats. Click to enter the playbook runtime.

Past playbooks

Optional. Recently closed playbooks. Useful when you want to revisit something just-completed without going to the full Past tab.

Recent artefacts

The most recently created or updated artefacts across the workspace. Click any to open in the Artefact Library.

The "optional" sections (Draft sessions, Past playbooks) only render when there's something to show — your dashboard quietly stays clean when those are empty.

The two calls-to-action

Two prominent buttons at the top of the dashboard:

CTA What it does
New session Opens the create-session form. The fastest way to start a standalone session. See Creating a session.
View playbooks Opens the Active Playbooks list — the full index of running and past playbooks.

These two cover most reasons you'd land on Home and want to do something rather than just look. If you're starting fresh, click New session. If you want to navigate into existing work, click View playbooks (or skip straight to the Active playbooks grid below).

Where each section's data comes from

Section Source
Upcoming sessions Every active playbook you can see, sorted by next session date. Capped at 6.
Tasks by due date Merged from your top 5 active playbooks (by recency), sorted by due date. Capped at 10.
Draft sessions Your unpublished sessions across all playbooks.
Active playbooks Every playbook in the workspace marked Active that you can see.
Past playbooks Recently-closed playbooks (Completed or Cancelled).
Recent artefacts The most recent artefacts across collections you have access to.

The dashboard requires you to belong to a workspace — without an organisation association, it doesn't render. See Profile setup for how Forge wires you to a workspace.

Drilling down from the dashboard

The dashboard is deliberately a scan, not a complete picture. Each section has a path to the underlying detail:

The Tasks rollup is capped at 10 across the top 5 playbooks. If you have many tasks across many playbooks, the dashboard is just the top of the iceberg — for the full task picture on a given playbook, open that playbook and use its Tasks tab. Don't treat the dashboard's Tasks list as exhaustive.

The same logic applies elsewhere:

  • Upcoming sessions stops at 6. For the full picture, use the Sessions calendar.
  • Recent artefacts is a teaser. The full picture is the Artefact Library.
  • Active playbooks shows everything if you have a small workspace, but for sorting / filtering / lifecycle actions you want the Active Playbooks list.

Walkthrough

  1. 1

    Land on Home

Sidebar → Home. Read each section in order — the layout is deliberate. What's upcoming sets the agenda for the day; tasks by due date sets the work; active playbooks sets the context.

  2. 2

    Open an active playbook

Click any playbook thumbnail in the Active playbooks grid. You land on the playbook's Home tab — the playbook-scoped dashboard.

  3. 3

    Click into a task

Click any task in the Tasks by due date rollup. You jump straight to that task's playbook, on its Tasks tab, with the task selected.

  4. 4

    Use the CTAs

If you're starting something new, hit New session. If you want to browse, hit View playbooks for the full list.

Tips & pitfalls

The dashboard is a daily-driver, not a complete report. Trust it for "what should I do today?" — don't trust it for "do I have everything covered?" The caps (6 sessions, 10 tasks, 5-playbook task rollup) are deliberate and necessary, but they mean your full workload may be hiding behind them.

Click thumbnails, not menu items, to enter a playbook. The Active playbooks grid is the fastest way into a playbook from the dashboard — one click, no menu navigation.

Use the Draft sessions section. It only appears when you have unpublished drafts — and it's there specifically so they don't get forgotten. If you find yourself with a long-standing draft, either publish it or delete it.
