Sessions

Responses tab

The facilitator's read-out of incoming prep — control panel on one side, response views on the other, swappable between aggregate and per-member.

The Responses tab is where facilitators read incoming prep. It opens whenever you visit a session that's published prep — and quietly becomes the page you spend most of your time on in the days before the session itself.

This page is the surface reference — the layout of the tab, what each control does, where to find what. For the practitioner perspective — which view to use for which task type, the missing-responses workflow, how to use the responses to shape the live agenda — see Tracking responses as a facilitator.

Layout

The Responses tab splits into two regions:

Control panel

A sidebar (or top bar, depending on viewport) for navigating the response set. Member filter, task step-through, view-mode toggle, and a per-task progress indicator.

Response view

The main pane. Renders the responses to the currently-selected task — in a layout chosen by the task's type and the view mode you've picked.

The control panel is always visible; the response view fills the rest of the tab.

What the control panel offers

Control What it does
Task step-through ← / → to walk task by task. The currently-selected task drives what's in the response view.
Member filter Restrict the visible responses to one specific participant. Useful when you want to read a single participant's full prep end-to-end.
View toggle Flip the response view between aggregate and per-member. Disabled (or hidden) for task types that only support one mode.
Per-task progress "9 of 12 responded." Lets you spot incomplete tasks at a glance.
Per-member progress When the member filter is set: "this person has done 3 of 5 tasks." Surfaces stragglers without you having to count manually.

Per-task-type response views

The response view changes shape with the task type — what makes sense for a poll doesn't make sense for an open-text question. The shape per type:

Task type Response view
Poll Bar / segmented chart of vote distribution. Per-member view shows the individual selections.
Opinion scale Distribution + average + spread. Per-member view shows each rating with the rater.
Priority ranking Aggregated cross-participant ranking; per-member view shows individual rankings.
Picture poll Image grid with vote counts.
Open text List of responses, each in its own card with the participant identified.
Answer list Each participant's list shown in its own card.
Video response Embedded video player per response, with a transcript when available.
File upload Each upload as a downloadable file with a preview thumbnail where possible.
Embed (Mural / FigJam / Doc) Inline render of each participant's interaction with the embed.
Contact info Tabular list of submitted details.

The full discussion of which view to use when (and why aggregate-vs-per-member matters more than most facilitators realise) is in Tracking responses.

Reactions and comments

The Responses tab also shows the reactions and comments participants have left on each task — see Comments and reactions on prep tasks. They appear alongside each response in the response view, so you can read engagement signals (who 👍'd what, who asked a clarifying question) without leaving the tab.

The Responses tab and the participant prep page show the same reactions and comments — there's no facilitator-only commentary surface here. If you want to engage as a participant, do it from the prep page itself.

Walkthrough

  1. 1

    Open the Responses tab

From the Session Planner, switch to Responses. The first prep task is selected by default.

  2. 2

    Walk task-by-task with the step-through

Use → to move through every task in order. The response view updates per task.

  3. 3

Flip the view mode where it helps

For polls and opinion scales, default to aggregate. For open text and video, switch to per-member. (More on this in Tracking responses.)

  4. 4

Filter by member to read one person end-to-end

Use the member filter to scope to a single participant. Useful when you want to understand one person's full prep before the session — particularly senior participants or anyone whose perspective you want to anchor on.

  5. 5

    Spot the stragglers

Watch the per-task progress indicator. Tasks with low completion are candidates for a personal nudge — see Tracking responses for the workflow.

Tips & pitfalls

The control panel is the time-saver. Most facilitators scroll through the response view and miss the control panel's navigation tools. Step-through + member filter + view toggle gets you through a session's responses 5x faster than scrolling.

Per-task progress is a leading indicator. If a task has 30% completion 24 hours before the session, that's a problem worth acting on now — not at session-time.

Open the prep page, too, for engagement signal. The Responses tab shows you what participants responded; the prep page shows you what they reacted to and discussed. Both are signals; both inform the live agenda.
